We were thrilled to be invited to Nourish to learn a thing or two from the incredibly talented and passionate Chef Dan. Nourish Vancouver was born out of our curiosity about a sustainable food system, love for food and the environment, and a desire to nourish the ones we love. Their mission is to create a space to celebrate delicious food and help each other make the better decisions for our bodies and planet. It’s about believing that supporting local organic farmers, eating plant-based meals and sharing great conversations, can make a difference.

The Nourish Cooking School was an unforgettable experience where we learned by the guidance of Chef Dan to create Dan Dan Mian and Steamed Bao. It was the perfect environment for those who want to enjoy and learn how to make globally-inspired meals using local, organic, seasonal ingredients and ethically-sourced proteins. All of the dishes we made were unitimidating and delicious; all meals we could (thankfully) and will recreate at home.

Planning an Outdoor Wedding | Tips for Your Perfect Day

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner… this is a favourite time of year for us; wedding season is here! Planning an outdoor wedding is a wonderful way to embrace warmer weather and celebrate your love, al fresco. Holding your ceremony, reception or both outdoors allowing the landscape to truly frame your big day can be a beautiful way to honour your love. Dealing with the details of your nuptials is where we shine, and these are our tips for getting hitched without a hitch!

Create an Experience

If your wedding is being held during a warmer month (July or August come to mind), ensuring your guests comfort is a priority. Making sure there is ample shade, refreshments, fans and even bug repellant (citronella candles) are smart moves that will keep them enjoying your special moment right up until your last dance.

Prep for Plan B

Ok, so we don’t want to be a ‘dark cloud’, but rain could be a possibility no matter the time of year. If your outdoor space doesn’t have an indoor alternative, consider a back up tent. Renting one just to be safe might be the ultimate saving grace to protect your wedding day.

Consider the Atmosphere

Lighting your surfaces and creating layering with your lighting creates such a beautiful atmosphere. Trees are an excellent opportunity to hang twinkle lights, chandeliers and lanterns to make a memorable, one of a kind décor statement. Just don’t forget to make sure you have power on-site!

Consider Local Bylaws

Depending on where you are holding your nuptials, consider certain bylaws and liquor laws. Do some research about what kind of rules and permits you’ll be subjected to before you plan anything. Saying “I Do” at the park near your childhood home may seem like the best idea ever, but there could be a few more kinks to iron out than you realize.
